Q: Why learning piano?
A: Learning piano lays foundational music knowledge for all musicians. It is an ideal instrument to introduce music theory to music lovers. It is also one of the most expressive instruments. Learning piano is often a stepping stone for you to pick up other instruments in the future.
Q: What will I learn?
A: I strongly believe in all round teaching approach and you will not only learn how to play music on the piano. You will learn the theory behind the music that you play, a bit of history of the music and the composer. Every student shows different interest in piano, you will be exposed to topics such as improvisation, performance technique, theory, and more. When you have found your passionate area in piano, we could tailor the lesson for you to specialise in that area – one of the true benefit of piano is that it is a truly versatile instrument and could easily adapt to your musical need. The sky is your limit.
Q: What is the best age to learn piano?
A: All ages! It is never too late to learn piano. I have students from age 4 to 70! For children, I would recommend they start at about 4-5 years old when they could focus for at least 10 minutes. Obviously, every child is different so if you want some advices you could always contact me for a trial lesson.
Q: I do not have a piano at home. Can I still learn?
A: Definitely. Although I would strongly recommend you to own a piano to practice. Having a piano is not a must to begin with. There are plenty of options when you first start, you could rent a piano, or find a studio that provide piano room. For beginner, a digital piano is a good alternative and budget friendly than investing in an upright/grand piano.
Q: Do I have to take piano exams?
A: That’s entirely up to you. The benefit of taking a piano exam is to give you a good opportunity to really dive into some pieces of music. There is much to learn to play to ‘perfection’. However, not everyone like an exam and as you learn I will provide with you a music workbook to ensure that you understand all aspects of the music that you learn.
Q: How are the lessons structured?
A: Lessons are typically Face-to-Face and on a one-on-one basis from 15 minutes to 60 minutes. Zoom lesson is also available if you prefer it. If there are specific needs on lessons feel free to contact me to discuss.
